Activity 3.2: Finding Trustworthy Sources

Writer's picture: IDEASIDEAS

“As a group, you should dig into prior research, academic literature, public reports, statistics, and more to help you understand your project topic. You're looking for what we already know about your design problem and what others have already done to solve it. identify the most relevant article or source for your project. As a group, write a 1-sentence summary of the most important lesson the article teaches you.”

Problem Statement: How might we encourage people to participate in outdoor exercise activities more often and socialize with people who tend to share the same interests?

Useful citation Sources

  • Results showcase that being social as well as learning new things during the outdoor activities contributed most to the individuals’ motivations to be active.

  • Perhaps our app can include some sort of learning/informational section

  • Conclusion section: “The proposed methods provide user recommendations for the outdoor activities regarding a specific time of the day within a specific day of the week.”

  • This is helpful when we conduct our interviews. We can ask questions like what’s the specific time of the day, or, the specific day of the week do you prefer to participate in outdoor exercise?

  • 100000 Reddit post analysis to prove the importance of social features in hiking activities

  • Different groups of people (e.g. Tourists, Enthusiasts) have quite different goals (e.g. fun, social, health) and preferences (e.g. alone, group, tech devices) for hiking.

  • This can be one of our interview questions, we can interview users whether they like to carry their mobile phones in hiking and what is the hiking program they are looking forward to?

  • We can also use this research result to customize the recommendation and socializing features, in addition to user research.

  • Some people may don't want to meet others (who are also doing outdoor activity) during outdoor activity (i.e. they prefer to do that alone).

  • Provide useful survey data. (if we don’t have time to send out surveys.)

  • Support our idea “social + hiking”

  • From the technology side, this article can help us understand that when people are doing outdoor social networks, when users use our application, the power consumption of the program is also an aspect that needs attention.

One-sentence summary

A good outdoor social networking app should consider the motivations of different types of users (about occupation/health condition/age/etc.).
